A road accident occurred near Bukit Shahbandar Recreational Park around 4.40pm yesterday afternoon. Two cars were involved in a collision resulting in one of the cars overturning. One of the drivers suffered injuries and was rushed to RIPAS Hospital. The police were at the scene to ease the flow of traffic.

Another fatal road accident was reported Wednesday night, two in one day after the tragic death of a teenage girl in the afternoon, in the Belait District as the Royal Brunei Police Force advised all motorists to be patient on the roads.
Traffic on Brunei's roads and highways will see a marked increase from today as people will be criss-crossing the districts visiting relatives and attending Hari Raya open houses.
Police said a 31-year-old man was killed in the accident around 8pm Wednesday along the Lumut bypass near the RBLF Third Battalion camp.
He was driving from Kuala Belait towards BSB when the accident happened.
According to the police, the victim parked his car on the right lane and a foreign-registered car from behind, not aware of the parked car in front due to darkness, crashed straight into it.
The victim was gravely injured and was rushed to Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait. The medical staff tried in vain to resuscitate the victim and he was pronounced dead.
The police reminded motorists not to park their vehicles along the highway and in case of a car breakdown, an illuminated emergency plate should be placed behind the car to alert other road users.
Meanwhile, at a press conference at the Police Public Relations Office, SIO Research and Investigation, ASP Ramzi Hayatina DSS Hj Ibrahim saw the need for all road users to embrace safe driving and be compliant with traffic regulations and adopt road safety to ensure safe travel.
Among the road safety aspects listed included planning the journey and if tired, sleepy or not focused, take a rest and delay the journey for a while, ensure that the vehicles are in good condition, brakes and other gadgets are functional, as well as make it a habit to visually check on the condition of the tyres.
Drivers should drive carefully and always be courteous to others including cyclists and pedestrians. "Always follow traffic rules and regulations while driving, do not drive over the speed limit, reduce speed during a heavy rain, wear your seat belts at all times when driving, do not use hand phones while driving, if it's absolutely necessary to answer a call or read and reply a text message, pull over safely to the side of the road with indicators on or if you have passengers ask them to talk or reply text messages on your behalf," said ASP Ramzi.
He also called on motorists to observe safety precautions such as using indicators and check rear view and side mirrors when changing lanes and never overtake on curves or when drivers do not have a full view of the road ahead and avoid tail gating at all times as this is a common cause of road accidents.
Road users are also advised not to beat red lights as it can be very dangerous to other road users, be ready to stop when traffic lights change to amber and as road safety is everyone's responsibility, all road users should exercise more care, caution and consideration at all times.
Also speaking at the press conference was Acting Head of Police Public Relations Unit DSP Nur Haidah Hj Abd Halim. In conjunction with the festive Hari Raya celebration, the Royal Brunei Police Force has reminded the public to take precautions when playing fireworks and firecrackers, particularly children, to avoid any unwanted accidents. Parents have been urged to ensure that children are always monitored and accompanied when they play with fireworks.
She also urged parents to buy only approved firecrackers and light them at open and lit areas and avoid dense housing areas and tall buildings. Members of the public are also urged to maintain peace and be considerate to their neighbours when playing with fireworks. Avoid playing with firecrackers during the call of prayers and it's prohibited after midnight.
The police also advised the public to refrain from making their own fireworks, which is against the law and if found guilty, offenders will be liable to 12 months' prison term and a fine of $2000.
She also reminded the public to refrain from buying, using and lighting fireworks that are not approved as it is an offence under the Public Safety Act Chapter 148, Fire Arms and Explosive Materials Act Chapter 58, which is carrying and having in possession explosive materials without permission, that is liable to jail and whipping, as well as Minor Offence Act chapter 30, which is lighting firecrackers at public places, which carries a fine of $250.
Authorised firecracker vendors are also reminded to abide by the rules and regulations outlined by RBPF and are prohibited from supplying or selling unapproved fireworks to members of the public.
The list of approved fireworks and firecrackers can be obtained from the Operations Department at the police headquarters in Gadong. Any information on the sale of illegal fireworks and firecrackers can be made to nearby police stations or through the police hotline 993.

Damaged SUV at the scene
Just a few days away from Hari Raya celebration, a couple suffered a tragic loss when their 15-year-old daughter was killed in an accident yesterday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Dyg Amirah Nabilah binti Mohd Yusof, a Secondary Four student at St Margaret's School in Seria.
The fatal mishap occurred at a four-way junction of H/18- H/19 in the BSP residential area in Seria.
According to an eyewitness account, a saloon car from Lorong Tiga Selatan Seria exited the H/18 junction and collided with an SUV vehicle coming from Kuala Belait.
The SUV was driven by the victim's mother with their Indonesian maid seated in the front passenger seat and the deceased in the rear.
Police said the mother operated a Ramadhan stall at Tamuneka Seria and was on her way there when they met with the accident, which claimed the life of her daughter.
The impact was quite severe at the rear passenger side of the SUV.
Local delicacies and cakes intended for sale at the Ramadhan stall were seen strewn at the scene of the accident.
The victim's mother and the Indonesian maid suffered severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait. Fortunately, the driver of the saloon vehicle escaped with minor injuries.
The crash that killed the teenage girl happened at about 2.30pm and the police received the call at 2.37pm.
Firefighters also provided assistance in extricating the crash victims.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
