THE Ministry of Communications through the Land Transport Department and in cooperation with the Royal Brunei Police Force and the National Road Safety Council (MKKJR) wishes to remind the public that October 1, 2013 will be the enforcement date for SiKAP. The ministry has also listed the demerit offences that come under it.

Through mass media channels, the ministry continues its efforts to convey to the public and share correct information regarding the final and official list of demerit offences under SiKAP, which was initially 41 in number, but has been refined to 34 offences at this stage.

The list of offences has been prepared in both English and Malay to ensure that the offences and demerit points attached to them can be understood and be made known to all sections of society.

The ministry and the National Road Safety Council also wish to remind drivers to constantly observe road safety practices that include not using a mobile phone while driving, fastening seatbelts and obeying speed limits.

Continued efforts will be in place to ensure the effective implementation of this system through the enforcement agencies involved in the execution of current, existing laws and regulations. Consistent and continued coordination and collaboration among these agencies as well as the public will render the legal, technological and enforcement support to ensure the aspired effectiveness of this system.

MIRI: Miri Motor Sports Club is organising the 10th Anniversary Borneo (International) Drag Race on Aug 31 at Lutong Airport Old Airstrip.

According to the club’s vice president, Jimmy Ngo said that this year’s event highlights will include new entries from Thailand.

“A total of eight racers from Thailand will participate in the drag race for the first time. This is a positive sign as more international country join in the race,” he said during the press conference recently.

Ngo added that teams from neighbouring Brunei Darussalam will also participant including those from Miri, Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur.

“About 100 drag race cars will be there on that day with a total of RM20,000 cash prize and trophy to vie on,” he said. Meanwhile, the drag race is divided into six categories namely 4-Wheel Turbo, 2-Wheel Turbo, 1.6 L – 2.4L NA (Naturally Aspirated), 1.6L below NA, Diesel Auto and Diesel Manual category.

For each category, the top eight racers will enter the final round while on August 30, the inspection on all the participating cars will be held at the airstrip where members of the public are invited to view the cars on display.
