The car which reportedly ran over the victim.
A 39-year-old Malaysian man was tragically killed as he tried to cross the road to relieve himself when a sports vehicle ran over him in a horrific crash along the road leading to Sungai Tujoh Control Post yesterday.
The police identified the deceased as Bobby Hilton Sumbang anak Samuel from Sri Aman, Kuching, Sarawak.
He was reportedly on the way to his workplace in Brunei to collect his paycheque when the accident occurred.
It was learnt that the deceased was working with a local private company in Belait District for three years.
The 25-year-old male driver, when interviewed, said he saw the victim getting out of his foreign-registered vehicle and crossing the road.
The driver, who was on his way to Miri, Sarawak added that he tried avoiding the victim, but it was too late. When he got out of his vehicle, he saw the motionless body of the victim by the side of the road. He contacted a friend who in turn called the ambulance.
Police officers from the Crime Scene Support (CSS) Unit from Bandar Seri Begawan conducted a thorough inspection of the scene.
The accident happened around noon yesterday. The victim's body was quickly covered before the arrival of CSS police officers.
The victim's colleagues in Brunei were also spotted at the scene.
The vehicle that ran over the victim sustained major damages.
The police are still investigating the case.
