Van and saloon car in a mangled mess following the collision which killed two

A happy Hari Raya outing ended in tragedy when a seven-year-old boy and a 27-year-old man were killed in a two-car collision along the Lumut bypass highway Saturday evening.

According to witnesses, both the victims were inside a van along with six other passengers and reportedly died on the spot. The police reported that the crash happened along KM 25, Lumut bypass at about 8.45pm involving a van and a saloon vehicle.

The six other passengers sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait.

Meanwhile, three male passengers including an 18-year-old male driver of the saloon vehicle escaped major injuries in the horrific accident. The two vehicles were heading towards Kuala Belait and the witnesses said the victims were clad in traditional Raya attire.

The police have been taking every possible measure to reduce road accidents during the festive season by holding roadblocks and issuing summons to errant drivers.

The police reminded motorists to be extra cautious, particularly when driving during heavy rain, and make sure their vehicles are roadworthy to ensure the safety of their loved ones.
