More than 100 vehicles were inspected during the operation along the Mumong Bypass.

The 6th day of the nationwide roadblock campaign resulted in over 100 cases relating to various road traffic offences, with the main focus of the operations involving speeding and safety belt violations.

A roadblock set up in Kg Bukit Udal, Tutong, resulted in 40 compound fines being issued, solely for speeding, with a total of 11 police personnel involved.

The roadblock along the Seria Bypass resulted in 32 compound fines being issued, with a total of 12 personnel involved, whilst a separate speeding operation in Anduki, Seria, manned by a team of 15 police personnel, also issued 32 compound fines for speeding.

The afternoon operations for safety belt awareness started off in the Department of Traffic Investigation and Control (JSKLL), Gadong, whereby there were 16 cases of safety belt offences and one case for using a mobile phone whilst driving.

The Brunei-Muara District Police deployed 40 personnel in a stop and search operation for safety belt awareness, which resulted in 42 cases.

There were 17 summons cases for safety belt offences, whilst 25 compound fines were issued on the spot for various other traffic offences.

The JSKLL in Batu 3, Seria, deployed 11 personnel for their operation, which resulted in five summons cases and two compound fines for not displaying road tax and a licence plate which was not in accordance with the law.

The Kuala Belait District Police, who deployed 25 personnel for the safety belt operation, had a quieter afternoon, issuing only six compound fines for safety belt offences.

Meanwhile, the Temburong District Police deployed nine personnel during a stop and search operation, which amounted to five compound cases and one 'Police 190' - a warning notice - whereby the offender has to pay a visit to the police headquarters within five days.

The objectives of this month's road safety awareness campaign by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and the Land Transport Department (JPD) is to increase police presence on the roads of Brunei Darussalam and ensuring the Road Traffic Acts and Regulations are enforced.

As a result of the campaign, the RBPF hopes that the numbers of road traffic accidents will be reduced and assure the safety of all roadusers.

Additionally, the RBPF Commissioner hopes that with this month's current efforts, the public will be educated and informed about the proposed Demerit Point System, in conjunction with the JPD's efforts to utilise the system throughout the nation by 2013.
