The smashed windshield. Investing on a smash-proof laminated film for car screen could prevent theft.

Travellers to Miri are told to be extra vigilant after another car owned by a Bruneian had its side screen smashed with a blunt object.

A handbag was stolen from the car by an unidentified man who ran towards his partner waiting on a motorbike in front of the victim's car.

The incident happened in front of shop-houses near a fast-food restaurant at 8 pm last week.

The woman did not realise she was followed to her car after buying dinner at the fast-food restaurant. She entered her car, placed her handbag in front of the passenger's seat, locked the car from inside and started the engine.

The windshield smashing incident left the driver shocked. She was helped by a family who came out of the fast-food restaurant.

The victim advised visitors not to walk at night in Miri, and avoid going out at night unaccompanied. Visitors, especially women, should not expose their valuables, belongings or handbags and to hide these from probing eyes.

"Do not leave your wife or kids waiting inside the car at night even when the doors are locked especially in car parks in front of banks. Criminals usually target bank customers at night.

"Invest money on laminated window film which are smash-proof," she added.
