Awang Rahim, 47, who was driving home from Miri on Sunday evening, veered off the Mumong bypass road and slammed into a lamppost to avoid an oncoming vehicle. He claimed that the accident occurred when two vehicles behind him overtook him. A distress call was made to the police at 9.48pm.
