Damaged SUV at the scene
Just a few days away from Hari Raya celebration, a couple suffered a tragic loss when their 15-year-old daughter was killed in an accident yesterday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Dyg Amirah Nabilah binti Mohd Yusof, a Secondary Four student at St Margaret's School in Seria.
The fatal mishap occurred at a four-way junction of H/18- H/19 in the BSP residential area in Seria.
According to an eyewitness account, a saloon car from Lorong Tiga Selatan Seria exited the H/18 junction and collided with an SUV vehicle coming from Kuala Belait.
The SUV was driven by the victim's mother with their Indonesian maid seated in the front passenger seat and the deceased in the rear.
Police said the mother operated a Ramadhan stall at Tamuneka Seria and was on her way there when they met with the accident, which claimed the life of her daughter.
The impact was quite severe at the rear passenger side of the SUV.
Local delicacies and cakes intended for sale at the Ramadhan stall were seen strewn at the scene of the accident.
The victim's mother and the Indonesian maid suffered severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait. Fortunately, the driver of the saloon vehicle escaped with minor injuries.
The crash that killed the teenage girl happened at about 2.30pm and the police received the call at 2.37pm.
Firefighters also provided assistance in extricating the crash victims.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
